Recently someone in my BIT 742 class brought up a photoblog called The Snowsuit Effort.
Ryan
Keberly (Wayne State art school grad) is taking some amazing
photographs, highlighting the individuals that make up the Detroit
homeless population. What I really like about this site is that each
person featured gets a quote on the page with their picture. They get
to voice something (though only a few lines). For the oft marginalized
homeless population, having a voice and being publicly recognized is a
form of empowerment.
My
big question is: Why is it called the Snowsuit Effort? At first I
assumed they were trying to collect money or snowsuits for the homeless
population of Detroit. But it doesn't talk about that anywhere on the
website. Answers?

Amazing pictures, sad pictures. I too have found no specific purpose to the site. I believe it is to put a face on the homeless of Detroit. Too often they are ignored. Example: did you know that a homeless person was killed during Super Bowl weekend? The news decided to ignore that fact.
