Most people who have been to Detroit frequently know that Windsor, Ontario Canada is right across the river. If you didn't, now you do. Think of it as a small city in the other country "south of the border", but only for us. Well, people might not think about it, but it's nice that our city borders Windsor. It gives us an international influence with some other specific postives Windsor provides to Detroit...
- Better radio stations with less commercials (89X, 93.9)
- TV coverage of sports show other country's teams, not just USA
- French TV programming in case you want to refresh your high school French knowledge
- Better hockey coverage, and we get to watch curling
- Arguably more objective and international news coverage
- A place with a different mix of population diversity
- 19 and over bars for all you under-aged people
- The "Canadian ballet" (involves exotic dancers)
- A nice casino with a hotel
- It's our gateway to Toronto
- Stronger beer
- Vinegar with your french fries and french fries at Taco Bell
- Duty free stores for all your liquor needs
- Cuban cigars (if you like that kind of thing, not that I advocate it).
- Slightly funny accents that you can actually understand
- Poutine french fries (basically gravy on fries)
- A beautiful view of the Detroit skyline which provides a great place to watch the fireworks from
- Unique variety of restaurants including an Italian section on Erie St.
So, when you need a change of pace from Detroit proper, look to our friendly neighbors in Windsor. Just don't forget to exchange some money for Canadian dollars before you go. Unfortunately, due to the devaluation of the U.S. Dollar and the Canadian taxes, your money won't go that much further.
