The Detroit News reported that the Detroit Techno Fest will go on with new promoters. Paxahau promotions group will handle the reins this year, but details like location haven't been set yet. Hart Plaza is one of several locations on the consideration block.
The Techno Fest started in 2000 over Memorial Weekend and has begun an annual tradition in Detroit. The event celebrates techno music, which many do not realize has many roots in Detroit. In the past the event has attracted up to a million people to our city bringing revenue to the hotels, restaurants, and retail in the area. While this celebration has created a boon for Detroit over Memorial weekend, it is also plagued by drama and backstage disputes. This is the third time the Techno Fest has changed promoters.
Regardless, I'm glad to see the tradition continue. People from all over the world come to Detroit to celebrate the music and it's nice to see that the festival will go on.
