Although both sports have a great tradition and huge fan base, I would love to think this is 'Frotown, Tiger Town, and Hockeytown. But, hockey's lockout really hurt their fans, so I would say most people are leaning towards a basketball town. If the Wings have some serious playoff success, that will change.

I hate to say it, but the perception may be racially dependent.

Detroit itself IS NOT HOCKEYTOWN. It might've used to be, but I've lived in inner-city detroit all my life & believe me, no one watches or can afford to play hockey. I geuss because the wings play @ the Joe, this is HOCKEY TOWN. Now, BASKETBALL, EVERYONE(including my Gramma) watches the PISTONS. & add the fact that it is an in-expensive game, well, the facts speak for themselves. Don't get me wrong, I love the RED WINGS, but nowhere near as much as my PISTONS.

GO PISTONS!!!
